Association for the Preservation of Historic Congressional Cemetery |
|
In June of 1976 a group of ambitious, civic-minded citizens formed the Association for the Preservation of Historic Congressional Cemetery (APHCC), to rescue this once proud ground from further deterioration and possible abandonment. The Association is a fully tax exempt 501(c)3 non-profit organization incorporated under the laws of the District of Columbia. At the same time as the Association was incorporated the Vestry of Christ Church leased the cemetery to the Association for a period ending July 31, 2019. Under the terms of the lease the Association has full responsibility for “operating, developing, maintaining, preserving and enhancing the cemetery grounds.” The Association has approximately 1,000 members who contribute annually towards the maintenance and restoration of the cemetery and numerous stewards who volunteer their time to achieve the same end. In recent years, generous contributions from organizations such as the Kiplinger Foundation, the Choctaw Indian Nation, and an endowment from the U.S. Congress have made it possible to begin the urgent task of stabilizing the grounds and monuments. The Association for the Preservation of Historic Congressional Cemetery is an independent and nondenominational organization that relies on individual contributions to provide the funds to maintain and improve this historic site. Tax-deductible contributions are gratefully accepted and can be made by mail to the following address: Historic Congressional Cemetery |
