WILLIAM WIRT
(1772 – 1834)
Born in Bladensburg, William Wirt was a prominent attorney, brilliant orator and longest serving U.S. Attorney General (1817-1829). He won national recognition in 1807 when he prosecuted Aaron Burr for treason. He served in the Virginia legislature for a brief period (1808-1810) and in 1832 he ran for president on the Anti-Mason ticket.
