THE CIVIL WAR TOUR
Begin Tour

Congressional Cemetery is the final resting place of a remarkable number of Civil War veterans (both Union and Confederate) and civilians who played prominent roles or were witnesses to tragic events such as the explosion at the Washington Arsenal that killed 21 young women. There are over 80 persons who knew President Lincoln or witnessed his assassination and the trial that followed. One consipirator - David Herold - is interred in his family's plot.

There are far too many veterans and eye witnesses to include on a single tour. This tour therefore focuses on the most prominent names of the time. You are invited to explore the Rosters menu on our web page to find more complete lists of individuals.
