In consequence of the melancholy event of the death of the Hon. George Mumford, a Representative in Congress from North Carolina, yesterday announced in the House of Representatives, both Houses of Congress adjourned without going into the business of the day. This day at 10 o'clock the funeral takes place, and being also New Year's day, the adjournment is till Monday next. The usual respect to the memory of this estimable gentleman was paid, of resolving that the Members of each House wear crape on the left arm for one month. The arrangements for the Funeral will be found in a subsequent column.
Order of Procession
For the funeral of the Honorable George Mumford, deceased, a Representative of the United States, from the State of North Carolina.
The Committee of Arrangements will attend at the late residence of the deceased, at 9 o'clock, a.m., this day, at which time the Corpse will be removed to Congress Hall, in charge of the Committee, attended by the Sergeant-at-Arms of the House of Representatives.
The members of the Senate and the members of the House of Representatives, are requested to assemble at Congress Hall, in their respective Chambers, at 10 o'clock, a.m. this day. At half past 10 o'clock, precisely, the funeral will remove from the Hall, to the City Burying place, in the following order:
