John A. Baker died at the age of 89 (d. 6 May 1929). He was a wealthy retired business man who made his fortune in the fertilizer business, owning plants in Georgetown; Germantown, Md.; Seneca, Md.; and on Louisiana Ave. He was active in city affairs. He was at one time secretary of the Committee of 100 and one of the founders of the Metropolitan Club. Other family members at the site are his daughter, Elizabeth Baker Kemp (d. 11 Dec 1907); wife, Elizabeth C.B. Baker (d. 30 Apr 1920); son, Brooke M. Baker (d. 3 Jan 1926); daughter-in-law & wife of Brooke, Mary G. Baker (d. 31 Jul 1937); and grandson(?) Samuel F. Beach (d. 28 Dec 1975). | |
