In 1939 the Veteran's Administration conducted an extensive survey of the Congressional Cemetery's records and grounds. They produced a list of over 1,100 veterans and in most cases provided the name, rank, unit, and type of headstone at the site at that time. Volunteers are currently working to identify veterans missed by the 1939 survey and those interred since the survey was completed.
We are also working on producing lists of veterans by the period or the capacity in which they served. We believe we have a complete list of veterans from the Revolutionary and Tripolitan Wars and a nearly complete list for the War of 1812. Work continues on subsequent periods.
