A Representative and a Senator from Rhode Island. Received a limited schooling and engaged as a merchant in Newport. Colonel of the Newport Artillery 1792-1809. Elected as a Federalist to the 3rd and 4th Congresses (1793 to 1797). Elected to the U.S. Senate and served from 1809 until his death on the steps of the Capitol Building.

Died. It is with sensations of painful regret that we announce the sudden death of Francis Malbone, Esq. a Senator from the State of Rhode Island. He dropped down yesterday on his way to attend divine service at the Capitol and immediately expired.

Senate, June 5

Mr. Mathewson announced the death of his colleague, Francis Malbone, Esq. who died yesterday morning. On motion of Mr. Lloyd, resolved, that the Senate will attend the funeral of the honorable Francis Malbone, this afternoon at 5 o'clock, from his late residence; that notice thereof be given to the House of Representatives and that a committee be appointed for superintending the funeral: Ordered that Messrs. Lloyd, Gilman and White be the committee.

On motion of Mr. Lloyd, resolved unanimously, that the members of the Senate, from a sincere desire of showing their respect to the memory of the Hon. Francis Malbone, deceased, late a member thereof, will go into mourning for him one month by the usual mode of wearing a crape on the left arm; and that a sum not exceeding one hundred and fifty dollars be applied out of the contingent fund, for placing a neat slab or monument with a suitable inscription over his tomb.

On motion of Mr. Lloyd, resolved, that as an additional mark of respect to the memory of the honorable Francis Malbone, the Senate now adjourn.
